The Kentucky state flag located on a navy-blue field is the seal and words "Commonwealth of Kentucky". The seal depicts a frontiersman in buckskins representing Kentucky's country inhabitants. A gentleman in a formal suit represents Kentucky's city inhabitants represent all the city inhabitants. Kentucky's state motto: "United We Stand; Divided We Fall" is found within the seal.
The Kentucky state flag was adopted by the Kentucky General Assembly on March 26, 1918. The flag was designed by Jesse Cox Burgess, an art teacher from Frankfort, the state capital.
